"Plants with Purpose" is more than a phrase at Green Goo; it's our passion. We carefully select each of the plants used in our products because each one serves a purpose for healing or providing relief. Therefore, we wanted to share with you some background info and benefits of the herbs that you will find in our natural products. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at sage.
What is Sage?
Sage is a herb that is part of the mint family and is also known as Salvia Officinalis. For thousands of years, sage has been prized for its medicinal properties, as well as its various culinary uses. Sage is an evergreen bush that is easily recognizable because of its grayish, fuzzy leaves and blue to purple colored flowers. The leaves of sage produce a strong aroma, and its eye-catching flowers attract butterflies and bees, making it a great addition to butterfly gardens. Sage is a lover of full sun and will grow best in sunny areas with well-draining soil because it cannot tolerate high moisture levels.
Sage has made a name for itself all over the world. France produced bountiful crops of sage for tea and China loved it so much they started trading four pounds of Chinese tea for every one pound of sage tea. In ancient Rome, sage was considered to have substantial healing properties, especially when it came to the digestion of the fatty meats of their time.
You’re probably used to seeing sage in the kitchen or your food. It’s become a staple herb just because of how delicious and nutritious it is.
